During the pandemic, gyms and fitness studios shut down worldwide. While Katie and Kelly found all of their favorite fitness options online, they observed that nothing of the same quality existed for their grandparents. Group fitness disappeared for them. Something needed to change.
What started as fitness classes over FaceTime quickly grew into a digital fitness community. Katie and Kelly quit their jobs in tech and began hiring physical therapists and trainers to design and teach safe and fun classes for adults over 55.
This community became Balanced. Everyday, we hear about “skepticism” turned into “obsession” or “I can now hike mountains” or “I am now at a lower and healthy weight.” We’re proud of what we’re building and believe in world of vibrant, joyful aging.

Biography
Bill started training himself at the age of 10 after watching Bruce Lee whip 10 guys with a pair of nunchucks. He quickly realized that he was no good with nunchucks, so he decided that trying to LOOK like Bruce Lee was a better choice. In 1994, Bill moved to Venice, California, to immerse himself and his wife Leslie in the bodybuilding and strength training lifestyle. He quickly was sucked into the movie industry while learning everything about fitness. In 2000, Bill and Leslie moved back to Hawaii and he immediately started teaching senior exercise classes at One Kalakaua Senior Living and Kahala Mall. The venues were spacious, and class sizes exceeded 80 people, so Bill learned how to improve both his public speaking and motivational skills as a professional trainer. By 2002, Bill and Leslie opened FitPro Hawaii LLC where they work with private training and rehab clients. Bill has been a fitness trainer for over 30 years, but he’s never worked a day in his life. Now he looks forward to sharing his joy for the industry with you.

Biography
Leah has been moving since age 3, growing up as a competitive dancer and eventually going on to dance professionally. Fitness was always incorporated into her training but became more of a focus as she grew older and became aware of her bodies need for hard work and consistency as opposed to natural ability. While Leah hasn't always loved working out, she has come to recognized movement as a privilege and loves to celebrate this through many modalities: Dance, Yoga, Weight Lifting, Cardio, and Kickboxing! She loves to offer variety as she recognizes the benefits behind many forms of fitness but most importantly believes in listening to your body to give it the movement (or rest!) that it needs in that moment.

Like any good story, Balanced was inspired by family. During the covid shutdown, the two friends realized that digital fitness for people like their grandparents were due for a revamp. Kelly even started giving her grandparents cardio boxing lessons via Facetime.
With backgrounds in technology, startups, and fitness, the two knew that they could create a digital fitness experience to inspire and build community with healthy outcomes that all older adults deserve.
